The Sith Blog
Things have been crazy. As most of you may remember from my previous rantings, I moved out and promptly lost my job a few months back. Since then I've found a different job to hate upon, and its' consumed my time wholeheartedly. Even more recently I told the employers that I had no interest in selling beds full time, and would be happy to work casual. So here I am with a Friday off, and a keyboard in front of me. Its a beautiful thing.
I've had the opportunity to play a great many games, and then not talk about them of late. So nutshell reviews are coming at you.
Borderlands: A great co-op game, and a decent singleplayer game. Borderlands takes a bunch of features that work well for other games and then jams them into an original world, with a crazy but suitable art style. One of its biggest faults is simply that it is not fun to play by yourself. Regardless this is without a doubt one of the best original IP's of the year.
85/100
Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City: Its two games for 69.95, of course its a bargain. Both games are more enjoyable than the original GTAIV, so if you liked that, then you best ensure this title is in your collection.
90/100
Dragon Age: This is the other best original IP of the year. Dragon Age plays very similar to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect, and that is certainly not a bad thing. For a game with only three classes there is a surprising amount of depth to it, and a ton of replayability. It does occasionally freeze, and the graphics are not amazing, but overall this is a game worth owning. 95/100
I've just started playing Assassins Creed 2 as well, and so far I'm not impressed. If you loved the original you will probably still love this, but if like me you got bored of the game quickly, you will likely get bored of this. I'm not far enough in to say that with any certainty, but that's what I'm picking up so far.
Anyway things are looking like they have calmed down, so I'll be back to bringing you regular reviews, blogs, and the like. Please don't applaud too loud, you will wake our neighbours.
A week strewn with late nights, and a flu which had me coughing up a few of my favourite organs, left me in a somewhat dazed state. At least that's what I'm sticking to. After completing my eight and a half hour shift at work I stumbled vacantly into Big W. I had no real reason to do so, considering the current lack of anything resembling money in my wallet, but regardless I found myself entering the store. Sitting proudly on the shelf just inside the door was an item which immediately caught my eye. I gazed at the price tag, astonished at the value. I examined the item closely, and I was sure it was exactly what I needed, a pressure cooker. Finally a question sprung to mind, why did I need a pressure cooker? The answer sprung forth with alarming certainty, to construct a railroad rifle of course. Slightly embarrassed I put the pressure cooker back on the shelf and made my way out of the store.
Aside from scouring the wasteland in search for a pressure cooker, and battling the flu with copious amounts of whiskey, I've also been putting a fair bit of time into finishing a script I'd been working on. Some of you may recall the Jim Pwnage blog story thing I was working on. It has somehow transformed into a script for a tv show. Now the pilot is written, and we are just trying to figure out how we can film the thing, and whether it's worth the effort. I'd watch it.
Lastly I've also been playing a bit of Section 8, on my brother's PC, and I'm loving it. Rather than just spawning you on the map the game lets you pick where you want to be dropped, and then you are shot towards that location. You can brake and aim your landing, meaning you can land on some poor fool's head. Fun times for all. There also seems to be a few different objectives during a multiplayer match, such as escort the VIP, collect the intel, and that sort of thing. I'll most likely talk about this one more after I spend some more time with it, but if its anywhere near as fun on the 360 as it is on PC, you all should go preorder a copy right now.
Yesterday I headed down to Sydney for Microsoft's Halo 3 ODST event on Cockatoo Island. My adventure didn't start out well. I'm slightly geographically challenged at the best of times, and me finding the train station by myself would have been an impossibility. I figured my GPS would guide me there, unfortunately I didn't realize that my GPS is just as challenged as me. After trying to convince me to turn into many a parked car, one way street, and building, it eventually decided to just lead me around in a circle. After turning the thing off and then getting lost, I lucked my way into finding the train station.
I'm still without internet, and that has left me playing games I never expected to, and watching more Australian tv than I'm proud to admit. Legendary was a game that captured my interest when I first heard about it. The concept sounded fantastic, pandora's box, a bunch of mythical creatures, and guns with which to shoot them. When the game came out I spotted a few reviews and figured I should steer clear of Legendary, but with so much free time on my hands I ended up playing it last night. I still like the concept, but there are just too many flaws for this game to be a worthwhile purchase. A jittering frame rate, poorly told story, massive loading screens, and just all around averageness are chief among these flaws. Thats not to say the game doesn't have its exciting moments, but its just these are overshadowed by the many things that are sure to annoy you.
I'm not sure what it is about Australian tv that makes it suck so much ass. Is it our writers, our directors, or our actors that are causing this barrage of shit to be aired every week? I watched Prime's newest shows last night, TVBurp, and some new skit show. Both were utter crap relying on slapstick, and crude humor rather than actually doing anything intelligent. Sure we have Home and Away, Underbelly, and Rush, but we don't have anything actually decent. Its even more worrying that people must some how derive enjoyment from these shows. Where are our great shows? Where is our Dexters? Our Breaking Bad? Our 30 Rock? Instead you can watch predictable, boring, poorly acted drama five nights a week. Fantastic.
So I've been in the house since about 7 last night till 8 this morning, and I'm already struggling to deal with the lack of internet in there. It's a really odd feeling, when so much of what I use the net for is social, and suddenly I'm in this silent house unable to just jump on the chat with my typical "Sup peeps". I'm pretty sure this is how multiple personalities develop....
At this stage I only have what was determined as the essentials in the place, and last night discovering what I had in my super-distracted state (see previous blog post) determined was essential was an interesting experience. I didn't have pillows or blankets, but I did have my copy of the bro code, and my nunchucks. I didn't have my phone charger, but I did have all my dvds, and my American flag.

We are also gearing up for our next community playdate. We don't have a date, or a game, or even confirmation that its happening, but it most likely is. Anyway let us know what you want to play so that we can go with it, or shoot you down, rain on your parade, and shatter your dreams, by picking something completely different for the hell of it. Regardless let us know what you want to play in the comments section below.
