With another AvP title released this month, PeteOZ jumped in to review the latest in a series of Aliens vs Predator games. Thanks to PeteOZ for this submission!
So the time has come to dust off my reviewing cape and crack out a review of Rebellion’s newest title - Alien vs Predator, so stop your grinnin' and drop your linen.
There is one thing I love about my games is atmosphere, if the game can make me feel it, and then it has my full attention. AvP has done just that. While it is not the most graphically beautiful game in the world, it will never win any beauty contests. Rebellion have done a couple of things wonderfully and that is the sound and lighting.
AvP has some amazing sound effects that have captured the essence of the Alien movies perfectly, from the beeping of the motion detector to the hissing of an Alien. All of these have combined to create a game that I feel has wonderful atmosphere. The lighting also just adds to the atmosphere, although throwing a flare as a marine does get a little repetitive and I should get more than one at a time.

This brings me up to another very important part of gaming, and that would be game play. AvP has three campaigns that all focus on the same story line but from different aspects of it. I’m not going to be getting into spoilers here, so no need to worry.
First off the rank is the Aliens: I have fallen in love with the Aliens in this game. They are great, and I feel are the best race in single player by far to play. Just make sure you have auto transition on and you are all good. The Alien controls seem smooth and I have never had an issue.
Second is the marines, pretty much your standard FPS control lay out there. Rebellion have not done anything to special with them. This brings me to my main gripe about the game. The Predator. I just feel he is too clunky, the controls just try and do too much and I believe it just takes away from the game play experience you get with the Predator.

Over all I would say it is a fairly solid title for anyone who is a fan of the franchise or just wants to enjoy a game and remember a day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the Corps!
